First thing there is more than just one type of haunt. To be honest I have heard of 5 different types: The Residual Haunt, The Traditional Haunt, The Portal Haunt, The Poltergeist Haunt, and the dangerous Demonic Haunt.
This type of haunting is not as common as most people would like to think, but generally it is the most accepted form of haunting. It is best described as being a person that is in someway attached to the people living in the house, some object in the house, or simply they resided there while they were living and just never left. The spirits in the Traditional Haunting seem to be quite intelligent and know their surroundings very well. Although they are thought to be this type very rarely are malevolent in anyway. Usually they are not dangerous at all actually. They are simply the spirit of a once living person that has not left this Earth because they have unfinished business. They will actually carry on the traits that the person possessed during its time alive, now if the person was mean then there is a good chance that they will leave behind a pretty nasty spirit. People who are not trained in the paranormal and even some who are can be easily spooked by this kind. In some rare cases the spirit has violently contacted someone in the house, but more often then not they are just mischievous not malevolent.
This is a pretty wild, but not new type of haunting idea. The portal haunting supports the ideal that there are "portals" or "gateways" between our world and the spirit world. It is thought that these "portals" are most commonly found in cemeteries. Now as a rule of ghost hunters a graveyard is not haunted. The land itself is. The site was more than likely haunted long before the cemetery was actually put there. Whether or not this is true. Who knows? S.E.G.R.A. believes that anywhere can be haunted and we will go there in search of the truth. But anyways who knows there could be "gateways" or "Portals" between the two worlds, which may explain how pictures of vortices appear in cemetery pictures.
This type of haunting is not as common as most people would like to think, but when it does occur it can be an extremely nerve racking experience. There are 2 types of poltergeist haunting: Human and Non-Human.
The Human type is more mischievous then harmful. They don't really know why the people are there and just want them to leave so it will play tricks on them in an attempt to scare them away.
The Non-Human type (OR DEMONIC HAUNT) on the other hand can be extremely dangerous for both the persons requesting the investigation and the investigating team that is in the area. This type does not know why the people have invaded its area nor does it care. It just wants them gone, and will make an attempt to accomplish this by ANY means necessary. There have been cases of a Non-Human entity attacking people, and even showing themselves in their demonic form to try and rid, what they see as there domain, of the living. They are also extremely hard to get rid of. In several cases an exorcism had to be preformed. Be EXTREMELY CAUTIOUS in this type of environment.
